Worried about your child right now

Find the line that matches what you are looking at, and do what it says.

Your baby is limp, blue, grey or mottled, is struggling to breathe, will not wake up, or has a fit

Call 999 now. Do not wait to see if it settles, and do not drive yourself if you are alone with them.

Call 999

A rash that does not fade when you press a glass against it

Call 999. A rash that stays visible through the glass can mean meningitis or sepsis, and it does not always come first.

Call 999

Under 3 months with a temperature of 38C or above, or 3 to 6 months at 39C or above

Call 111 now, or 999 if they are also drowsy, breathing fast or refusing feeds. A young baby with a fever is always worth a call, whatever time it is.

Call 111

They are feeding much less, have far fewer wet nappies, or seem floppy and unusually quiet

Call 111. Dehydration in a baby moves faster than most people expect, and 111 will tell you whether to be seen tonight.

Call 111

You are having thoughts of harming yourself or the baby

Call 999 if you might act on it. Otherwise call 111, or Samaritans free on 116 123, any hour. Thoughts like these are more common after a birth than anyone says, and having one does not make you a danger or a bad father.

Call Samaritans, 116 123

Something is wrong and you cannot say what

Call 111 and say exactly that. You do not need to justify the call or name a symptom, and knowing your own child well enough to notice is the reason to ring.

Call 111

If you are not sure, call. Nobody at 111 or 999 will think you wasted their time.
